HUANG Bo
Composer originated from China. Her compositions explore the intersections between sonic structure, cultural memory, and narrative clarity, while remaining sensitive to the carefully constructed musical elements and spatial organization.
Her music has been performed internationally across the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has collaborated with distinguished ensembles and performers including Ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble Modern, the IEMA Ensemble, Eastman Philharmonia, Eastman Graduate Composers Sinfonietta, the New York Youth Symphony Ensembles, violinist Hae-Sun Kang, and cellist Jeffrey Zeigler.
Her works have been presented at festivals and academies such as precept.concept.percept XIII. Residency Program for Composers and Performers (Slovenia), Festival Mixtur (Spain), Ensemble Musikfabrik Virtual Brass Academy (Germany), ManiFeste Academy (France), and the Lucerne Festival Composer Seminar (Switzerland). She has taken part in masterclasses with composers including Dieter Ammann, Unsuk Chin, Milica Djordjević, Stephen Hartke, Han Lash, Felipe Lara, Augusta Read Thomas, and Francesca Verunelli. Bo’s music has been performed at venues including Christ Church, Danbury Music Centre Concert Hall, Espace de projection (Paris),Oper Frankfurt, Hatch Hall, KKL Luzern, Kilbourn Hall, Morse Recital Hall, Oper Frankfurt, St. Wenzel's Church (Naumburg), Symphony Space, and DiMenna Center for Classical Music.
She is the recipient of several awards, including the Belle S. Gitelman Award, First Place in Webster University Community Music School’s Young Composer National Competition, Finalist in the National Young Composers Challenge, Howard Hanson Orchestra Prize, and the Louis Lane Award.
Bo received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in composition from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Robert Morris, David Liptak, Matt Barber, Daniel Pesca, and Evis Sammoutis. Bo is currently a DMA candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, Butler School of Music.
